This is just plain sad.You people give christianity a bad name. I am a christian. The reason people think that all christians are ignorant and judgmental is because idiots like this go around misspelling everything the say and raging about someone who believes other things than they do. Seriously, I say that everyone should just accept that people believe what they want regardless of whether or not it’s true and stop the pillaging, murdering, and ranting that has been going on for thousands of years. To all you smart athiests, i respect you. I understand that there is more evidence for your cause than there is for mine. Regardless I am christian and will continue to be until i change my mind. Now everyone just be quiet and watch some family guy. =P

Whether you believe in the big bang theory or Gods creation theory it is irrelevant. Religion and Science, although primarily contradictory when it comes to this argument, can both be positive aspects in our lives. Religion allows us to try and be the best we can be, not only to ourselves, but also to each other. I’m fully aware that organized religion has negative aspects and is corrupt, but that doesn’t mean that we should ridicule people for wanting to believe. Every individual has the right to make their own choices, and if they are sure of their beliefs, should feel no need to ridicule others, or try to force a change of opinion in others. Science is also positive; we ask questions, and look beyond what we are told in order to better ourselves, both academically and generally. Just because we might not know, understand or believe in aspects of the world around us, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t question. We should all strive to find meaning for our own questions. By demeaning the beliefs and opinions of others we do not strengthen our position or beliefs any more than if we did not. As individuals we cannot know all the answers, and somewhere along the line we have to accept/believe information given to us, but it is our right to do so.
I personally believe in the evolution theory, but I also choose to believe in a greater good. I have read the bible out of choice, as well as other religious documentation, and although I do not believe in an omnipotent being, I do believe in a greater good. I also feel that organized religion (particularly Catholicism) is the main reason people have a negative outlook on religion as a whole; ‘scientific’ people should pride themselves on looking beyond what is in front of them, that also means when it comes to religion. Religious people should accept that faith cannot answer all possible questions, and just because they choose to accept a certain way of life does not mean that others have to do so.

You start your argument off with a good exploration into the reasons and meaning behind the environment that we exist in. That’s a good start. Then, you quickly manage to prove yourself nothing more than a common keyboard warrior by asking how stupid the poster was.
Here’s a reality check: having differing beliefs, especially in regards to theism, isn’t an indicator of intelligence. It’s an indicator of someone’s exploration of their own rationality and that person exercising their right to choose their beliefs based on what makes the most sense to them.
Take a second and put your emotional response on hold because, as you can see by other responses that you’ve received, it doesn’t paint you a martyr- it paints you as a pariah.
Ask yourself this: how can God, who has made no direct contact with man since Jesus passed several thousand years ago, actually be proven to exist outside of a realm of belief? The beauty of science is that, when tested, it will either prove or disprove itself. I’m not saying that there is no God, but what I am saying is that there is no definable way to measure whether there is or isn’t. Science, on the other hand, offers you that luxury.
In regards to your “10 orders” argument, consider that there are universal laws in place that are governed more by human psychology than by religious decree. For example: imperial China, before it had any exposure to Christianity, had the same set of laws and conduct. As did Japan, India, and pretty much every other nation that existed prior to Christianity. Even the ancient Greeks and Romans had a similar law structure in place, and their theistic identity was defined by having multiple Gods. I’d raise to you the challenge that the laws that are in place are in place because of humanity’s psychological disposition- the laws simply exist to facilitate our behaviour.
In regards to your argument concerning the scientific certainty of the age of the universe, I challenge you here simply because science has never stated a definite age. What we have now is, at best, an educated guess. By all accounts, this is far more accurate than the time-line proposed by theism due to the fact that, at the very least, science is able to reproduce its results
Lastly, in regards to your statement concerning the make up of the stars, the only comment that I have to make is that we are able to determine the make up of stars thanks to our own experimentation on Earth. Experiments that have been conducted on Earth allow us to infer which processes are taking place in space.
In reality, the act of sitting in front of a computer screen and even having this argument is testament to that fact. The scientific evolution – the one that has enabled instant communication, longer life-spans, and a higher quality of life – is the same type of evolution that species go through over the course of a millennia.
Consider that fact the next time you put gas in your car, fertilize your lawn, or drink from a plastic bottle. Our entire way of life has been derived from the demise and evolution of billions of creatures over the course of millions of years. And that fact, by the way, can be proven time and time again.
So, to conclude, I’m not saying that God does or does not exist. What I am saying is that rational conversation and discussion will go much further to promote your beliefs than calling people stupid and citing irrelevant, and often scientifically provable, events and scenarios. You have done more to hinder the progress of your cause than promote it.

@e5ff30ce4d6879fc85ebbcddd116d9a3:disqus Ok. Everyone just calm down. There is no evidence for or against the existance of God. I believe that religious theories correspond with scientific beliefs if either one is true. For example, the big bang. There was one atom and it suddenly split. No one knows for sure but it is possible in theory that god chose for the atom to split. I understand that everyone has their own beliefs. These are mine. There are no contradictions between scientific discovery and religious views. Believe what makes sense to you and don’t argue with other people about their beliefs.

hey you know we can actually date the earth by taking core samples and carbon dating them. There might not be a perfect way to tell how old stars are but we know the speed of light and can use several equations to calculate how long it took for a star burning out to be seen here on earth. All suns have a life span, eventually their gasses burn up and I believe the sun implodes and creates a black hole. What you don’t realize is that there are atleast 21 different dimentions, most are hundreds of years away from out comprehension, time being one of them. Its all relative, and in a vacuum or a black hole who’s to say your second is worth the same as my second? Everything can or will be explained sooner or later by science. Religion is taught by man, which means its not the direct teachings of any god, but an interpretation and there is no man (or woman) with the knowledge or power to make those decisions. So i guess the rules your running by was probably made up by some old chauvinist ass way back in the day. There is hard scientific proof that the earth evolves by itself, show me one example of where god can be proven? Incredible scenes and miracles don’t count because they mean different things to everyone. ex) many think childbirth is a miracle of god. i dont think something that makes you shit yourself and literally rips you open is anything to oogle over. wonder if there is any advances in a mutation of budding for humans?

Maybe, just maybe, you should keep your mouth shut. Maybe you should respect people with their own beliefs. Humanity today just makes me sick, insulting people because they believe in a higher power that saved us all.
To quote Futurama, if you’ve done something right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.

jesus tittyfucking christ, you just wrote like 10 lines about deitys being the answer to all of this crap. so shut the fuck up and get a life. BTW. You just raised the bar of stupidity. sincerely, dude that is not a complete cockfag shithead like you. have a nice day

America isn’t the only powerful nation in the world it’s corrupted and half of us are hobos.Even where I live in New York the’re a bunch of bums.Even Canada is doing better than us!
Dhsfh
youre an ass hole.
Random-dane
I might be an accident. Why not? Do you find it too random? The big Bang occues, elements travel, “spread” througout the universe (You do believe in the expanding of the universe, right?), and at one point, forming our solar system, with the sun in the middle. The earth evolved life, because of its right conditions, such as temperature, pressure, etc, you’ve probably heard it all. You’ve probably also heard that I took quite a few years, before humans started to rule the planet ..and it is a little funny, how much we look like monkeys, and how smilliar our Genom’s are, don’t you think?..but okay, everything can be coincidence..and about, why it has survived, it could very well be related to the fact, that it holds good stories, and points, about compassion – which is good. Compassion and being a good person in general, is good. And why would something like that die out?..I personally believe the divine element is added, to grant it more credibillity, since nobody living here, can claim to be gods, hence gods or people connected with god, like talking to him, will have people listening to them..cause, sure, the supernatural element is intresting, and life would be less awesome, if it wasn’t there – for entertainment – I believe. However, no matter what you believe, do you ridicule scientific theorys, because they’re not fitting with christianty..why would something be made up of gass? Like..you think gass don’t exist?..You don’t know that all elements have the gass-stage? What is your argument for that? Counter it and proove me wrong. I’m not even trying to prove anything, I’m just saying; Don’t mock what you don’t understand. And I’m not even mocking religion, though I believe that spiritulaity and compassion alone should do it. But fine. Oh yeah, I noticed, it’s a year ago you wrote, but I was too weak (:p), I could’nt resist..open your mind
WhoCares
Okay, could we leave God out of this now? I don’t care if he exists or not right now. Right now, I wanna watch Family Guy. That’s the reason I’m here and I guess you are here because of that, too. Now just enjoy the show, everybody!

oh the humanity !!!
Tom
…You misspelt ‘they’.
Tom
Hi there. I’m really not making fun of you and I respect the fact that you feel so strongly about something, however I just read your comment about the shorelines knowing where to stop… They don’t. The sea is eroding the land quite quickly which is why so many sea defences have been installed on beaches around the globe! There are many coastal towns which are eroding away – churches that have fallen off cliffs into the sea! CHURCHES!
And also, an ape isn’t a species – it’s an animal group similar to monkeys but without the long tails. The apes that we see in zoos and in the wild today wouldn’t have evolved into humans because they’re not the same species as us. Only one species of ape evolved into man and that’s where we came from.
Like I said, I’m not having a go at you or poking fun – I believe in both God & scientific views – I just felt the need to clear up a couple of mistakes you made.
Gina
A differing opinion is not stupidity. i am not religion, in fact i would go as far as to say i dont like it… but why because someone does do people decide its ok to call them stupid. You talk about them being small minded, well how bout opening yours?
not to anyone specific as i only read like the first 2 posts…
that is all
