The song that plays while Peter is defending himself to Lois at the train station is the instrumental version of “Power To Believe” by The Dream Academy from a scene in the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (which, along with Home Alone, was written by John Hughes) where John Candy makes nearly the exact same speech to Steve Martin. Peter’s masseuses are characters Molly Jensen and Sam Wheat from the film Ghost, who are reenacting the famous pottery-making love scene from the film on Peter’s back while the corresponding song “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers plays. During the drive the family sings Bette Midler’s song “The Rose”.
