LOL, it seems the Seth Macfarlane wants to kill the show without give the100 milion back to FOX.

The fact that the opinions on this episode are so different, proves that is a hit. Just like they say in the theatre, whether people love it or hate it, as long as it breeds discussion, you succeeded.. By the way, i thought this episode was EPIC!

i thought the episode was pretty good…people have to understand everyone is not going to like every episode…people like different things and Seth Macfarlene is smart enough try different things to appeal to different audiences…It is this aspect that allows the family guy fan population to continue to grow…i may slightly like one episode but love another therefore ill keep watching for that next extraordinary episode…The episode that i slightly like the next person may love…They are trying to appeal to as many people as possible…you can not do that by targeting one group and make them laugh their butt cheeks off…Seth Macfarlene is truly a genius…and the musical numbers in family guy are absolutely brilliant…

Man, so many people have drank Seth McFarlane’s Kool-Aid to think this episode was anything other than mind-numbing schlock. Brian has never been a good character, mostly due to the fact he’s an obvious author self-insert, and Stewie has just been shit since he got Flanderized from ‘maybe a little gay’ to ‘fuh-LAMING’.
Worst episode ever.
Murdoc
That just sucked. Wasnt even funny at all… I give a shit about real character development. That show is supposed to create laughter by fuckin random szenes. So that sucked.

This was a great episode!

Here’s the deal: The episode was touching and it was brilliantly crafted. The problem that I had with it is that I felt like I had an agreement with Family Guy–unspoken as it may be. The agreement was that they would pass me some funny sight gags, a couple of flashbacks, some great one-liners, and a not-so-hidden subtext that echoed a life lesson-to-be-learned. And in return, I would continue to cherish the pure entertainment value of Family Guy; I would feel grateful for having this time to escape from the real world into a world of humor, of laughter, and of nothing too important.
The fact of the matter is that this episode violated that. I would have enjoyed it much more if I had known that family guy was going to take a turn. I would have enjoyed it much more if the agreement I had with the show (and I am speaking figuratively, mind you–so don’t get your panties in a bunch) encompassed the depth of and melancholy nature of this episode before today.
And as much as I can see that the McFarlane wanted to use the clever mechanism of building an audience, filling them with expectation, and then delivering a message that is almost the polar opposite of what the show is normally about, it doesn’t change the fact that from now on, my enjoyment of Family Guy will be a little bit different–and not necessarily good. The reason for this is that I enjoy the mind-numbing entertainment value of Family Guy without the need for deep emotional soul searching. Where do I go now for that? Nothing was as funny as Family Guy.
What’s next? Are they going to probe into Herbert’s tendency to like boys and relate it back to some tragedy in his life? That’d be okay, but why not show how Lois was repeatedly raped by her first father (not Mr. P) and that she has deep emotional scars as the result of it? That’d be a good subject along these lines that would be a wide open canvas on which MacFarlane could paint his next episode so all you “intellectuals” and “deeper” people can chalk one more source of pure entertainment off the list.
I love Family Guy and I have cried in other episodes because they were so touching. This one left me feeling hollow, sad, and very contrary to what I watch Family Guy for. If you want to do something like this, why couldn’t you do something like the Family Guy Star Wars DVD? Let me opt to explore the depth of some characters, let me opt to find out more….don’t just spring it on me when I have had a rough week at work and was looking to unwind and laugh a little.

For a Start… Personally i thought this episode was amazing! Whether it was right for family guy is another matter… Congrats to Seth on this amazingly touching insight of characters. Really adds another level to Brian and Stewies friendship. But im sure a lot of people tune in to family guy to see quickfire surreal cutaway jokes and peter acting like an idiot…which is hilarious! but this was something new, similar to south park i thought, childish human with a very adult message. love it / hate it…. either way, well done to Seth for havin the balls to take the risk!

I actually loved this one! Made me laugh hard out loud, and also made me think. Awesome episode!!!

possibly the best episode ever!!!
….but make these a habit and ill stop watching family guy!

This one, combined with the more recent “Quagmire’s Dad” is taking the series in too serious of a direction.
I watch FG for some humor before heading to bed, and these two episodes seem more like dramas than comedies. Quagmire, an insatiable Playboy, is morphing into a character with some serious anger issues and emotional struggles.
I don’t know what kind of polling they do on the Family Guy audience, but I don’t think the audience is looking for major drama and character development and deep, personal struggles.
I can only speak for me, but I’m there for the laughs, chicken fights, Star Wars parodies, “Giggities”, etc.
I’ve enjoyed Stewie and Brian’s friendship and adventures, from ski slopes to Arabic market places, but it’s like turning “The Naked Gun” into a chick flick.

people keep sayin this is the best episode of family guy… well put it this way.. i know most of you would never be watching family guy, if they produced these kinda episodes all the time. And for this episode in general, it was an absolute disastor. And most of you feel obliged to say, yeah it was a good episode jus because it was different from all the other episodes. I watch family guy, for the laughs and jokes that put a smile to my face, When you pressed the play button – I know you were all wanting the same. And dont say it was a excellent episode because you feel that it should have been.. just be honest and say it was a shit episode. It went too far, wtf.. brian wanting to kill himself?? wtf was that about. that shits not even funny, when you actually kno some1 who has commited suicide. And finally the people that did enjoy this episode and did think it was the best episode in the world – trust me, I highly believe it will be the one episode thats not watched twice by the same audience.
wow, i was totally impressed by the episode. really liked it. and you guys should stop this annoying shit about “oh the episode is shitty ’cause it doesn’t have some fart humour” – for one f*cking time!!! This ep is really good, and you’re just moron school kids. Go back to mama, get your apple juice and go to bed, its late!

Ive never been much of a fan for Family guy i thought it was all joke after joke given its a comical cartoon show that's a given but it does get annoying & stupid after awhile also i haven't been a fan for Brian nor Stewie (after they made him gay) but i gotta say that the maker of this show really can show that he can make a meaningful episode of family, dis spite the poo part i think this show is one of the best episodes.

Everyone has different opinions, none are right or wrong. I think that it was a hilarious episode and that if someone doesn’t want to read other people’s opinions about it then they shouldn’t.
That might be the most intelligent thing I’ve ever read on one of these forums. Thank you, sensible, rational human being!

This episode really made an impression on me. Not only that the producers took the whole story so far, but also that we see so much feeling beeing shared between the two of them is simply amazing and flabbergasting! It’s truly stunning, in a positive way of course, how the producers turned the at first sight rather shallow looking plot of a closed room into such a breathtaking story. Not to mention the deep storyline and the powerful usage of emotions. This episode truly is different … but simply great. I’d even go so far as to say that this might be one of the best episodes ever!

Worst episode..ever.
A guy replying to Kyle
I’m glad you liked the episode so much, I quite enjoyed it myself. But honestly if you are looking for “sophistication and depth” you need to look somewhere else. Family Guy is great because it’s an escape from complexities — as is most T.V. shows and movies. It’s difficult to develop intricate characters in 20 minute episodes, or even in 2 hour movies. It’s even more difficult to find in shows like Family Guy. Don’t take Family Guy for more than it is: a funny cartoon.

“if you want deep go watch a movie”
I loved this Episode because I was caught off guard. It stood against the stereotype of the series and featured content against the norm. Watching a drama, you already know what your in for, but finding some serious in your Family Guy was unexpected. It’s a special Episode, proving the Seth can go beyond “one-note.”
One of the things that I read on the web is the idea that this episode “proves that Stewie is gay.” This is not the case, infact the focus is the relationship of best friends. If you have ever had someone that close in your life, you know Stewie is telling the truth when he describes the feeling. If you have felt that level of friendship, I suggest watching it with your best friend as I did with mine. Powerful stuff.

Yes, I agree, simply “decusting”.

A guy who agrees with Kyle
Kyle is simply saying that’s it’s refreshing to see such a good comedy take one night, one episode away from their same routine, and prove that they can be funny, and serious at the same time, without countless cut aways or shock laughs.. Don’t get me wrong, my favorite show is South Park, and there couldn’t be more shock laughter in a show, but really, it’s nice to see your favorite show use a little class. Do any of us really have just one type of humor, and that one type alone?
So, I completely agree that Family Guy is not a show of class or sophistication, but if you’re a perceptive person, you’ll see all the underlying character development that’s meant for viewers who want a little more than repetitive humor. For us, it’s captivating to see our favorite character progress little by little every episode in the subtlest form. And this episode was the the seriousness that us “more perceptive” viewers were waiting for.
Again, we love the “slap stick” humor as much as everyone else. But we also greatly appreciate the underlying character development that not everyone picks up on. This was an episode for us, and we are truly grateful for it!
